Passport and Visa

Foreign nationals need to obtain Inner Line permit (ILP) to visit Sikkim which is issued by all Indian Missions abroad, Tourism offices, New Delhi, Sikkim Tourism Office, Kolkatta and Sikkim Tourist Office, Siliguri on the basis of an Indian visa.

How to enter Sikkim

Nearest airport is Bagdogra which is 125 km and approximately 4.1/2 hours drive from Gangtok, Sikkim’s capital town. Indian Airlines and Jet Airways operates flights between Bagdogra & Delhi, Kolkatta and Guwahati.

The closest Railway Station for Gangtok is New Jalpaiguri (125 km, 4 hours drive) connecting Kolkatta, Delhi, Guwahati, Lucknow and other important cities in India.

Weather
Cold months are November to February with minimum temperature dipping to 4 degree centigrade during January-February. It is between months of March to early May when sunshine is quite abundant. Summer is officially from May to September and June, July, August are the main monsoon months. Maximum summer temperature goes up to 28C while minimum winter temperature 0C and average rainfall 325 cm. RF/year.

Money
Indian Rupee is used in Sikkim. The Money should be exchanged only through authorized money changers.  There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency or travelers’ checks that can be brought by the tourists in Sikkim.

Day 1. Bagdogra-Darjeeling  

At arrival at Bagdogra airport, you will be received by our guide. Drive to Darjeeling.  Transfer to hotel. Overnight at Darjeeling.
 

Day 2. Darjeeling
Visit the Tibetan Refugee Centre, Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and tea Gardens. Evening free to visit Chowrasta and the local Market. (B)

Day 3. Darjeeling- Pelling

Early morning visit to tiger Hill to see the sunrise. On your way back visit Yiga Choling monastery and Dali monastery. Transfer to your hotel. After breakfast drive to Pelling via Peshok Tea Gardens and along the river Teesta. Stop over at Jorthang for tea break. Continue drive to Pelling. Later visit the Sangacholing Monastery.. Overnight at Pelling. (B)


Day 4. Pelling- Yuksom

After breakfast visit Pemayangtse Monastery and Rabdentse ruins. Check out from hotel and drive to Yukosom. En-route visit Khechophalri lake, Khangchendoznga Water Falls, Rimbi Waterfalls.. Transfer to hotel. Overnight at Hotel. (B)


Day 5. Yuksom

Today we visit Dubdi monastery, which is the oldest monastery in Sikkim. Later we visit the Stone Throne and the  Norbugang Chorten (Stupa) where the first Chogyal (King) of Sikkim was coronated. We will also visit the Kartok lake nearby. Evening free. Overnight at Yuksom. (B)


Day 6. Yuksom- Gangtok

After breakfast drive to Gangtok. En-route visit Tashiding monastery and the Bonn Monastery at Kewsing. Visit both the Old and New Rumtek monasteries. Transfer to hotel. Evening free. Overnight at hotel. (B)


Day 7. Gangtok- Phodong- Labrang

After breakfast we drive to North Sikkim to visit two very important monasteries of Sikkim namely the Labrang monastery which is a Nyingmapa monastery and the Phodong Monastery which is a Kygudpa Monastery. Overnight at Gangtok. (B)


Day 8. Gangtok- Kalimpong 

After breakfast drive to Enchey Monastery perched on a hill top. This ancient monastery is of great importance to the people of Sikkim. Later drive to Kalimpong through the Sikkim-Bengal border town of Rangpo. Transfer to hotel. Later after lunch visit the Sangdokphalri Monastery and the very interesting Roman Catholic Church built in the Tibetan style where even Lord Jesus is portrayed as Lord Buddha. We will also visit the local market here. Overnight at Kalimpong. (B)


Day 9.  Kalimpong – Phuentsoling/ Bagdogra Airport
After breakfast drive to Phuentsoling, the border town of Bhutan.  Transfer to your hotel where you will be met by tour representatives from Bhutan. Or send you to Bagdogra Airport for your next destination.  (B)
