China Visa Updates — Good News for American Travelers

The Chinese government has continued to streamline the visa application process for American travelers.

Current Requirements for Americans

American citizens need a valid China tourist visa (L visa). The visa is typically valid for 10 years with multiple entries.

How to Apply

• Apply at the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate
• Allow 4–6 weeks for processing
• Required: valid US passport, completed application, passport photo, supporting documents
• Tour into Tibet provides invitation letters and itineraries for your application

Tibet Permit

The China visa alone is not sufficient for Tibet. After obtaining your China visa, we apply for your Tibet Travel Permit — a separate required document. This takes up to three weeks and must be obtained through a licensed agency.
